For admittance to the MSc “Earth Sciences and the Environment” the following prerequisites and selection criteria apply:

1. Each candidate may submit only one application and only for a single Specialization.
2. Eligible candidates should be able to demonstrate undergraduate or (previous) postgraduate degree ranking at the top 35% of the scale by which their institution of origin ranks its graduates or, equivalently, Level C of the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).
3. Eligible applicants should be able to demonstrate functional knowledge of the English language (level B2 and above). Applicants are thus required to submit copies of their relevant titles and/or certificates. These include certificates from accredited English speaking secondary schools and degrees from accredited English speaking institutions of higher education. Applicants without official certificates are entitled to request certification of their working knowledge of English by written and oral tests in front of an ad hoc Board appointed by The Department.
4. Knowledge of a second foreign language or more is desirable and will be taken into consideration.
5. The personality and composure of the Candidate is important and thus appraised by a personal interview in front of a student selection board. 

In addition to the above, during the selection process are also evaluated any qualifications from additional studies or expertise, research activities, professional experience and the motivation letter, which the candidates must include in their application, and in which they explain their personal and professional aspirations regarding their selected Specialization. Two recommendation letters will be also required.
